Shaw Community Update

June 2026

Dear Parents, Guardians, Students, and Community Members,

As we come to the end of another school year, we want to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support of our school community. Your partnership with us is essential to the success of your children, and we are incredibly grateful to be a part of your lives.

This year marks a truly special milestone for our community: it is our fourth year in our new building. With that, we are incredibly proud to celebrate this year’s 6th-grade graduating Class of 2032! They hold a unique place in our history as the very first class to spend all four of their upper-elementary years, grades 3 through 6, entirely within these walls. Watching them grow alongside this building has been an absolute privilege.

We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our staff for their immense hard work and dedication. Our teachers and team are deeply passionate about what they do, and they remain committed to providing our students with the best possible education. We are so grateful for their efforts, and we see the profound difference they make in the lives of our students every day.
Thank you all for a historic and memorable school year!

As always, your input and support are very important to us. Please know our doors are always open to you. Please do not hesitate to contact us at any time.

Thank you for your continued partnership as we wrap up this year together.

Warmly,
Andrew Tuccio & Erin Rosenkranz

New 6th Grade Schedule for 2026-2027

2026-2027

As we prepare for an exciting upcoming school year, we want to share our newly structured 6th-grade daily schedule.

To help our rising 6th graders transition smoothly into their new routines, our day will be organized into 8 periods. Moving towards a middle school model will help our students transition to the Jr./Sr. High School the following year.

While every 6th grader shares the exact same period times, recess/lunch block, and morning UA/WIN (Unified Arts / What I Need) period, their core academic classes are scheduled differently depending on their class section. Each student will have all of the same courses, just in a different order. Depending on their specific schedule, all students will see 3 or 4 teachers throughout the day.

Below, you will find the master schedule grid to help you and your student visualize their day.

Highlights of the New Schedule:
  • A departmentalized schedule to foster organizational skills, independence, and flexibility—vital tools as students prepare for the Jr./Sr. High School.
  • All 6th graders will have recess and lunch together during Period 5, providing a great opportunity to socialize across different sections.
  • Every student starts their day together at 8:20 AM with Unified Arts, then WIN for targeted academic support.
  • Every student receives a comprehensive curriculum including Math, English Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, and PLTW (Project Lead The Way) STEM instruction.
A 6th-grade class schedule displays periods, times, and subjects for each class group.

Frozen

We want to thank Ms. Peters and the full cast of Frozen for putting on a wonderful spring play. We look forward to seeing what the drama club has in store for us next year.

3rd Grade

At a very special community meeting, third graders were visited by a group of high school students who speak multiple languages. They read pages in both their native languages of Portuguese, Vietnamese, and Spanish, as well as in English. Shout to Emilie Reilly for making this opportunity to collaborate with the high school possible.

4th Grade

The Grade 4 students have had a busy month of May! Along with working hard on I-ready assessments and MCAS testing, the students have also enjoyed several engaging activities. They've put their creativity to the test with the Pringles Challenge, used their imagination and enthusiasm watching the play Frozen, gotten fresh air while enjoying extra recess, watched teachers get their hair cut for a good cause and now, they will be taking a field trip to Broad Meadow Brooke before the year is out!

5th Grade

Volunteers from the Blackstone River Watershed Association came to present to our fifth graders! They discussed water pollution, how land use can affect water, and ways we can help keep our water quality high. Students participated in a hands-on demonstration to model the effects land can have on water. It was a great day of hands-on science learning!

6th Grade

Students had a fantastic time at Peer Ed Field Day, participating in fun activities and games while building meaningful connections with their high school Peer Ed partners. The day provided opportunities for teamwork, friendship, and learning alongside positive role models. It also helps bridge the transition from 6th grade to the Jr./Sr. High School, easing some of the anxiety many students feel about moving up next year.

A special thank you to the Millbury Parents Club for generously funding the buses and making this memorable experience possible for our students!

SUN Bucks provides a $120 lump-sum summer benefit per school-aged child for income-eligible families. The program is administered by the state Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) in partnership with DESE and with assistance from schools.

SUN Bucks income eligibility standards are the same as those for the National School Lunch Program (NSLP). As such, all enrolled students identified as meeting the income eligibility standards for free or reduced-price lunch during school year 2025-26, either through an NSLP household paper application or direct certification, are automatically eligible for SUN Bucks. Students identified as homeless, migrant, runaway or participating in Head Start are also automatically eligible.
