Need help with ParentSquare?

We are excited to announce that Millbury Public Schools is introducing a new communications platform called ParentSquare. ParentSquare will consolidate our email, phone, and website announcements into a single platform. This will also include additional features, such as secure document transmission, making communication more streamlined for our families.

Starting July 1, 2025, all communications—including school closures, bus delays, newsletters, and other notifications—will be sent through ParentSquare. Our first notification utilizing ParentSquare will be on Friday, May 23, 2025, when we will wish everyone a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend. We encourage all families to enroll in ParentSquare before the 23rd to ensure uninterrupted communication throughout the summer.

What you need to know:

If you do not take any of the actions listed below, you will continue to receive notifications from MPS at the email address and phone number we have on record for you. If you need to update your email or phone number, please reach out to your school's main office. We also encourage families to use the ParentSquare app, which offers additional functionality we think you’ll find valuable.

  1. Install the ParentSquare app or go to ParentSquare Website and follow the prompts to sign up.  You may also have received an email invitation to sign up.
  2. Set up your account online or in the app using Google, an email address, or a cell phone number. Your email/phone number must match what we have on file.  If you need assistance or if you notice your information is not correct, email us at parentsquare-help@millburyschools.org.
  3. Please verify your information:
    1. Confirm students:  You will see all of the students that are linked to your account.
    2. Confirm your email address and phone number. First, click “Confirm”, and “Yes, This is Me.
    3. If you are also an MPS employee, you may have multiple accounts. If prompted, it is recommended that you merge accounts.
  4. Set your preferences
    1. Please set your preferred language (if it is not English).
      1. In the App, you do this by clicking the Menu > Account > Preferences > Language
      2. On the web, click your name in the top right corner, My Account > Language Settings.
    2. Please set your notification frequency. If you choose Digest, you will receive one notification for non-urgent notifications at the end of the day.
      1. In the App, you do this by clicking the Menu > Account > Notifications
      2. On the web, click your name in the top right corner, My Account > Notification Settings.

What to expect:

You will see three types of messages in ParentSquare: Posts, Direct Messages, and Alerts

Posts

Most of the messages you see in ParentSquare will be posts. These posts are only accessible through the ParentSquare app or on ParentSquare Website. They contain information on specific topics from the school, a teacher, a club, or a team. A post may be directed to the entire community, a specific school, a grade level, a club or team, or even a single classroom. Examples of posts include notifications about athletic contests, application deadlines, newsletters, and school or district events.

Typically, posts serve as one-way communication to families. While commenting is an option, it is usually disabled. If commenting is enabled and a comment is posted, only the school administration will be able to see it. Similarly, if you “Like” or “Appreciate” a post, this will only be visible to the school administration. Additionally, school and district posts will be cross-posted to the website.

Direct Messages

Direct Messages function like text threads, enabling two-way communication. This feature is exclusively available through the ParentSquare app. Students at JSHS who participate in clubs or athletic teams have access to group chats where they can communicate with their advisors, coaches, and fellow members. The district oversees and archives all communications within these group chats.

Alerts

Alerts are one-way messages designed to notify families about urgent and important information that is more time-sensitive than a regular post. They can be sent via voice, text, and/or email. The sender has the option to choose all three formats or limit the delivery to specific ones. There are two types of Alerts.

  • Smart Alerts are important but not critical. If a parent sets their notification preference to Digest (see the previous setup instructions), all Smart Alerts are delivered nightly in one notification at 6 PM.
  • Urgent Alerts are time-sensitive, critical alerts. These messages override a parent's delivery preferences and are delivered immediately. School closures and security events are examples of Urgent Alerts.

As we implement ParentSquare for the upcoming school year, we will continue to add features and inform you about these updates through ParentSquare. We hope you find the platform user-friendly, an improvement in our ability to communicate important information in an easy and convenient delivery method, and an upgrade over the previous tools used in the district. If you need any assistance with setting up or using ParentSquare, please contact parentsquare-help@millburyschools.org.
