Once a Woolie, always a Woolie

School-Wide Assembly Follow-Up: DREAM Expectations

Posted Date: 04/30/26 (01:33 PM)

Shaw Families,

In response to the needs of our building, we held a school-wide assembly on Monday to review our shared Shaw expectations and to remind students what it means to be a Woolie each day.

During the assembly, we spoke with students about how small choices throughout the day help keep our school safe, respectful, and ready for learning. We focused specifically on three important expectations:

1. Transition quietly
Students were reminded that hallways and transitions are learning spaces, too. Moving quietly helps other classrooms continue learning and allows students and staff to hear directions clearly.

2. Walk with body control
We reviewed the importance of walking safely in hallways, stairwells, classrooms, the cafeteria, and outdoor areas. Students were reminded to keep their hands, feet, and bodies to themselves, move at a safe pace, and be aware of others around them.

3. Use respectful language
We discussed how words matter. Students were reminded that respectful language helps everyone feel safe, included, and valued. Name-calling, teasing, inappropriate comments, and hurtful language do not reflect who we are as a Shaw community.

We also reminded students that these expectations apply throughout the entire school day, including arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, bathrooms, hallways, buses, and classrooms. Our goal is not only to correct behavior, but to teach, practice, and reinforce the skills students need to be successful members of our school community.

Families can help by taking a few minutes to review these expectations at home and asking your child:

  1. - What does it look like to transition quietly?
  2. - What does body control look like in the hallway, cafeteria, or recess?
  3. - How can your words help others feel respected and included?

Thank you for your continued partnership. When school and home use the same language, it helps all students understand expectations and contributes to a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment for everyone at Shaw.
