Cold and flu reminders
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we enter cold and flu season, we want to remind families of a few important guidelines to help keep our school community healthy.
Colds and flu are common this time of year, and we appreciate your partnership in monitoring your child’s health before sending them to school. Please keep your child home if they have any of the following symptoms:
Temperature of 100°F (37.8C) or higher (your child should be fever-free for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medication before returning to school)
Vomiting or diarrhea (must be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning)
Persistent cough that interferes with learning or breathing
Sore throat accompanied by fever or swollen glands
Unusual fatigue, body aches, or signs of illness that prevent participation in school activities
Students who have been prescribed an antibiotic may return to school after 24 hours on the antibiotic if there is no fever, and they feel well enough to return.
If your child has mild cold symptoms such as a runny nose or occasional cough but feels well enough to participate in class, they may attend school. Please remind your child to practice good hygiene, including frequent handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes, and avoiding close contact with others when possible. If you are unsure whether your child is well enough to attend school, please contact the nursing office.
In order for any absences to be excused, your child must have an excusal note from their PCP or urgent care provider. Please contact your child’s PCP for a note if necessary. If your child is absent for 3 consecutive days due to illness please contact the health office.
Thank you for helping us maintain a healthy learning environment for all students and staff. Please reach out for any questions!
Sincerely,
Megan Lawson BSN, RN
