Mid-Year Social Emotional Screener

In January, we will be administering the Behavioral and Emotional Screening System (BESS) to students as part of our ongoing efforts to support social, emotional, and behavioral well-being. The BESS is a brief, age-appropriate screener that helps identify students who may benefit from additional support. Results are used by school staff to guide prevention and intervention efforts and will be shared with parents if follow-up is recommended.

If you would like your child not to participate in this screener for their social-emotional and behavioral health, please reach out to talger@millburyschools.org directly.

3rd & 4th Grade

Lighting up the World with Kindness!”

This past month, our 3rd and 4th graders have been lighting up the world with kindness. It was their mission to spread kindness throughout the third and fourth grade hallways. They designed light bulbs that have messages to their peers at Shaw about how to be kind to others. It was sweet and inspiring to read what the students had to write.
A classroom bulletin board displays student-made paper lightbulbs with messages about kindness and self-learning.
A string of colorful, lightbulb-shaped decorations hangs from the ceiling, each containing handwritten messages about kindness.

A wall display features colorful, hand-drawn light bulb shapes with handwritten messages about kindness, hung on clipboards.

5th Grade

Mrs. Bush’s WIN block came to Mrs. Schultzberg’s WIN class to teach them all they have been learning in class.  Students created a presentation to teach others about statistics and then made example problems for students to solve.  It was great to see students learning from their peers on a topic that was new to them!

6th Grade

Our sixth graders are deep into their Forces at a Distance unit, exploring how objects can push or pull each other without ever touching. The current focus of their investigation is the amazing world of magnetic fields. Some different experiments that 6th graders have done so far in this unit include building their own speakers, measuring the magnetic field using the formula d/t=r (distance divided by time = rate), and dissecting speakers from Chromebooks and headphones.
